A bit of History
Mullumbimby Community Preschool opened in the 1970’s operating as a non-profit preschool, caring for 60 children located on Stuart Street, Mullumbimby, renting the Mullumbimby RSL Band Hall.
The first committee was established in 1981. The preschool became an incorporation in 1988.
Due to the changes to the regulations in 1989, it was decided we needed more space. The Mullumbimby RSL Band Hall committee generously donated the building in Stuart Street, to be relocated.
Fundraising began and we became the main recipient of the “Chincogan Fiesta” raising funds to go towards the moving costs of the building.
The Mullumbimby Community Preschool was supported by local member “Don Page” to secure the site at the corner of Fern Street & Station Street that was owned by State rail. The preschool temporarily operated out of the Mullumbimby Showgrounds in 1993 while the building was relocated and renovated.
Construction was completed in March 1993 and on the 22nd of March 1993 Mullumbimby Community Preschool opened their doors at our new location. On the 7th May 1993 local member “Don Page” officially opened the preschool with committee members.
We have been known as “Dinosaurs” to the community due to our large diplodocus on our front wall and have hidden dinosaurs in and around the preschool grounds.
